Notice of the Meeting and The Main Motion

Congregational Meeting November 2018
Notice of Congregational Meeting
To Consider Sale of Holy Cross’ Land and Buildings
The Council of Holy Cross is calling a
Congregational Meeting for Sunday November 11, 2018 at 12:30 p.m.
to consider the matter of selling Holy Cross’ land and buildings.
The motion to be voted on at this meeting is as follows:
Main Motion:
The congregational council is directed to enter in to negotiations for the sale of the property with the following provisions:
a) the sale price to be not less than $4.5 million and
b) the offer be determined by the council to be a fair offer and
c) that the buyer to take possession of the property in no less than 2 years
2/3rds Majority Required for Motion to Pass
Only a congregational meeting can grant authority to sell real property. The by-laws of the congregation mandate that a 2/3rds majority is required for such a motion to pass.
Background to Motion
Originally, Council was approached by an established Burlington church seeking a new location. That interest evaporated but while discussions were going on a developer heard through real estate contacts that Holy Cross had been approached and submitted their notice of intent to purchase our property for $4.5 million.
